About Us
As a company we have been running for 8 years now, and started quite by accident really! Whilst Chris has always been around horses from around age 4 years old, whether it be competing at a Gymkana, riding, owning or just generally being around them. Horses have always been a big part of Chris’s life and still are very much so.
One day, Chris had a call from a friend, someone was stuck trying to load an unruly horse on to a lorry, they had been there for 8 hours trying… 8 hours!! At their wits end, could Chris possibly come and attempt at getting the horse on to the lorry for them? Chris headed off, got there and stood with the horse for a minute or two, getting a feel for his new four legged friend, and it for him. Chris led him up to the ramp and just like that the horse went straight on. One call turned in to lots of calls, lots of non loading horses, and lots of very stressed owners trying to load them… quite by accident it had turned in to ‘a thing’… “I know a guy that can help you.”
Chris was busy running 3 bars and a nightclub in Plymouth at the time, and Emma managing them. Whilst owning race horses as a passionate hobby and longing for a life of less hours and more pleasure, the more the calls came through, the more we began to realise there may actually be a quieter life to be had here, so our first lorry was purchased and Stealth Horse Transport was born! Running alongside the bars and nightclub, the transport business was a smaller sideline, something to do during the week days and for pocket money, but was becoming more and more busier and more and more rewarding.
The diary kept getting busier and busier. The recommendations kept coming and the calls didn’t stop coming. We moved to Tiverton to a house where we had our own land and stables, where we could keep our horses at home with us and very close to the M5 making longer distance journeys that much easier and the pubs were sold. Also enabling us to be able to offer overnight stabling for horses that are being transported by us, either as an overnight break or a short term stop gap. Stealth was now a full time business!
We have nine of our own horses at home, four broodmares (3 TB’s, and 1 ID), one ex military ID boy, one miniature gypsy cob that we rescued off the M4 along with the police who never left(!), one homebred TB filly just 2 yrs old, one Cyldesdale x ID filly born this year and Bobby the miniature Shetland who IS on the payroll and many of our customers know him well. Not only is he our 4 year old twin girls pony, but he is also somewhat of a therapy pony for worried horses, horses that don’t travel so well on their own or are nervous about going on to the lorry. Bobby is brought along to keep them calm and he is paid in carrots for his work!
So we are Stealth Horse Transport, we are a family run business with a knowledge of horses, we treat every horse as though they are our own, and take great pride in that fact. We have lots and lots of loyal customers that we treasure very dearly, but welcome any new customers with just as much attention!
